The legendary piano teacher Dame Fanny Waterman says she was "hurt" to be asked to retire from the world-renowned Leeds International Piano Competition.

She founded and ran the competition for more than half a century and stepped down five years ago, aged 95.

At the time, she said: "I feel ready... to hand over the reins."
But she has now told the BBC that she had not wanted to step aside and has criticised the Leeds' decision, calling it "misguided".

All teachers will stop using video conferencing platform Zoom for their home-based teaching, after hackers hijacked the streaming of a lesson to show obscene picture to some students.

The move is a precautionary measure until security issues have been ironed out, the Education Ministry said on Thursday (April 9) night.

The company is now looking ahead to a post-pandemic future, and planning to keep the trucks moving for the convenience of their students.

Over the past few days, everyone around me seems to have caught on to Zoom, the Silicon Valley–based videoconferencing software company.

My elementary school–age kids are using it to keep in touch with their teachers while their school is shut down, and my septuagenarian aunt, under orders to “shelter in place” in the San Francisco Bay Area, reported that her weekly piano lessons will now take place over Zoom as well (as she marveled via text message: “Zoom—who knew?”).
