It might appear odd to encounter a recording of Johannes Brahms' Lieder (German art songs) arranged for four hands on the piano.

But why not? In actual fact, much of the German composer's orchestral music (all four symphonies, overtures and serenades), chamber music (quartets and quintets) and even his German Requiem exist in versions for piano four hands.

Katya Moeller (violin) and Ksenia Nosikova (piano) have played together for 10 years. They have most recently performed in Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Colorado, and Minnesota, as well as internationally in Italy, Austria, and Russia.

The 2019-2020 season will see this Mother/Daughter Duo touring in Brazil and Southeast Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok).

According to the "Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians", we discover there are two types of piano duets: "four hands" and the "piano duo". These are the two main ways by which two players can perform together. When both use the same piano, we term the duet "four hands". When each performs on a separate piano, they form a "piano duo".

Some of you know that we(Brooklyn Duo) occasionally play for weddings. As you can imagine, we get a LOT of requests for Canon in D, and we've discovered that there are NO good arrangements available anywhere for piano and cello! Hard to believe given its popularity.

So we decided to make our own! We tried to stick as closely to the original as possible (which was written for three violins and basso continuo), and we performed it NOT at a snail's pace so the bride can actually make it... See More

We tried to stick as closely to the original as possible (which was written for three violins and basso continuo), and we performed it NOT at a snail's pace so the bride can actually make it down the aisle without putting everyone to sleep. ?(Yeah, we said it! Nobody likes a slow processional!)

Also, the number one complaint about this piece from cellists is always how booooring it is to play because they literally have to play the same 8 bass notes over and over for the entire piece. Problem solved with this arrangement because the cello NEVER has to play the bass! ?
