Well, could an orchestra do it on their own? AT LAST! A simple and funny explanation by conductor and stand-up comedian Rainer Hersch. Classical Music at it's funniest ("Victor Borge for a new generation"). Jokes, laughter and, hang on you will learn something.

For the Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear, Beethoven has been a lifelong project. Aged three, he listened to an entire 12-LP set of Beethoven’s piano sonatas in a day. At five he set to work on the symphonies.

Would this deep obsession give his Complete Beethoven Piano Concertos, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Andrew Constantine, edge or distinction in a crowded market? Yes. The results are fleet-fingered, insightful and imaginative, capturing an essential sense of... See More

The results are fleet-fingered, insightful and imaginative, capturing an essential sense of improvisation in the cadenzas (Goodyear is also a composer).

Coronavirus lockdowns are no barrier for musicians who want to record together: remotely: as British singer-songwriter John Miles and the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra showed with their new release.

Miles sang and played the piano at home in the northeast of England, while the others performed their own sections elsewhere in Europe, following a click track of sound cues to keep time. The tracks were combined in a studio.

this concerto – all its 20 minutes of not-particularly-contrapuntal music – also numbers among Bach’s best works.

The BWV 1052 is one of the finest examples of ritornello form. In it, a repeated section of music, the ritornello (literally “a little thing which returns”) alternates with freer episodes. The ritornello recurs in various keys, often in highly compressed or fragmented form, and its restatement in the home key usually heralds the close of the piece.
