The 2019 Performers(‘) Present symposium, themed Telling Stories, saw the sharing of a rich spectrum of knowledge and experiences in musical and artistic practice. Over the course of four days, the symposium community (with individuals representing over 20 nationalities) explored issues and ways forward for what we do as musicians, artist-researchers and institutions in the 21st century.

Visiting Artist Paul Lewis recently concluded a series of concerts internationally, exploring the music of Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms.

As part of this endeavour, he brought four charismatic and memorable recitals to the Conservatory between 2018-2019.

On his most recent visit, he shared with our students his intellect and wisdom on keyboard music of the 18th century in a public masterclass.

Visiting Professor Karst De Jong from the Koninklijk Conservatorium - Royal Conservatoire in his 4-month residency at YST presented his artistry through the perspective of musical improvisation.

In the early part of the Telling Stories season, Karst presented a piano recital based on various compositional styles. From 24 to 30 June 2019, 12 YST students attended the Chofu International Music Festival held in Japan.

Led by Festival Director Masato Suzuki, the festival orchestra brought together professional musicians from top Japanese orchestras such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, student musicians from Japanese high schools and conservatories, as well as YST students to play under the batons of conductors Masaaki Suzuki and Simone Menezes.
