At the end of the 1800s and start of the 1900s, the production of pianos took off as demand for the instruments increased in well-to-do homes.

But the pianos made during that era are now, 100 years on, collectively reaching extinction.

While some pianos can be restored, others are beyond repair and so are being dumped, abandoned, neglected, smashed - even burnt.

Who knew that even a simple changing of hands for a used pianos could go wrong? Anna wanted to give her piano away, and was very confident that her piano was definitely in a good condition just before the piano was moved out.

A day after Bella received the piano, she took a video showing the defects - several sticky keys and a few broken strings. Who's the culprit - Anna, Bella, or piano mover?

Shocked fans crowded around the 68-year-old music legend as he played several songs on a black piano at St Pancras International on Friday morning.

Photographs and videos posted on Twitter showed John playing a piano in the middle of the station, surrounded by a crowd of delighted onlookers.

After a brief performance, the Rocket Man star thanked fans and signed the piano had been playing with "Enjoy this piano. It's a gift. Love, Elton John".

But the Bukit Panjang Primary School pupil, who described the guitar performance at Victoria Concert Hall as a "memorable experience", did not have to pay a cent for it - thanks to a new programme by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), which aims to make its shows more accessible. (Standard tickets at that particular show, the President's Young Performers concert, had ranged from $15 to $48.)
