Shocked fans crowded around the 68-year-old music legend as he played several songs on a black piano at St Pancras International on Friday morning.

Photographs and videos posted on Twitter showed John playing a piano in the middle of the station, surrounded by a crowd of delighted onlookers.

After a brief performance, the Rocket Man star thanked fans and signed the piano had been playing with "Enjoy this piano. It's a gift. Love, Elton John".

The Red Piano was a concert residency by English singer-songwriter Sir Elton John. The residency took place at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The idea for the show originated in 2004 by Elton John and David LaChapelle.

The Red Piano was originally scheduled to be 75 shows over three years. John ended his residency at the Colosseum on 22 April 2009.

The show was replaced by Cher's Cher at the Colosseum and Bette Midler's The Showgirl Must Go On.
