Can you tell if this is by Mozart?

Comments from various YouTube users:
- If someone told me this was Chopin I would believe them
- What astounds me is that this piece was written in 1782 and it sounds like early Beethoven! This is piece is 20 years ahead of its time
- I hear Beethoven, Chopin and Cajkovskij in one piece. This is Mozart: the source of three centuries of music.

Yuja Wang played the famous arrangement by Volodos and Say of the Turhisch Marsch by Mozart, last movement of the Sonata KV 333 in A major (but the Marsch is in A minor).

In fact, it is not a proper arrangement by Arcadi Volodos and Fazil Say.

Yuja Wang has made a mix between the Volodos version and the more jazzy Say version. She begins with Volodos, then plays Say, and then she alternates both transcriptions.

Beethoven thought he was younger than he was!

For many years, Beethoven believed he was born in 1772, not 1770.

Why?

His father Johann van Beethoven, who was responsible for his piano learning as a child, told others his son was actually two years younger in order to make him seem like more of a child prodigy than he was. Some say it was to draw comparisons to Mozart, who himself was somewhat of a child prodigy.

- These boys are musical geniuses, good actors as well as so good humorists; They make a game of their effort and years of hard disciplined work so people can get some fun by listening to classical music. I totally admire them.

A piano prodigy who made his professional debut at age 12, Peter Serkin seemed destined from childhood to carry on the legacy of his father, Rudolf Serkin, one of the 20th century’s most revered pianists.

But while the elder Serkin was celebrated for breathing new life into Beethoven and other old masters, his son became known for championing the work of 20th-century composers such as Oliver Knussen, Toru Takemitsu, Stefan Wolpe and his childhood friend Peter Lieberson, even as he worked to reveal rich new textures in the classical repertoire so cherished by his father.

Serkin, who has died of pancreatic cancer aged 72, played everything from Bach to Berio and Mozart to Messiaen, sometimes using a 19th-century fortepiano to perform period works.
