For 33 years, John A. Kite has played piano at The Brown Palace Hotel. He’s the soundtrack to tea-sipping in the impressive lobby and the accompanist for patrons who burst into song at The Ship Tavern. (The most requested song? “Moon River,” he says.)

But until bars and restaurant dining rooms are allowed to open again, Kite won’t be tickling the ivories. He’s sad. But he gets it.

Kite said this is the first time in its 86-year history that The Ship Tavern has closed.

Mr. Andrew Lloyd Webber playing the piano as the country remains under lockdown due to Corona Virus COVID19
With us all spending a bit more time at home, which ALW musical number would you like to see Andrew play?

I didn’t think I’d ever get such a response to this little tryout! Here I am in my own self-isolation. The song that came out on top was ‘All I Ask Of You’ - ALW

Piano Teachers > Will private tutors who are not based in centres be required to suspend their lessons?

We urge private tutors who conduct lessons outside of centres (e.g. home-based tutors) to take appropriate and sensible measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including observing guidelines on social distancing, segregating students should they be from different schools, and ensuring that those who are on LOA or SHN do not attend. Dr. John Mortensen suggest five ideas for practicing the piano in time of global pandemic.

1. Play easy/intermediate pieces to "close the loop".
2. Record yourself and make a list you're bad at.
3. Go after a technical deficiency.
4. Listen to non-piano music to gain a perspective on what the piano is good at and not so good at.
5. Learn the Art of Partimento

Following COVID-19 measures announced by the Ministry of Health as of 24 March 2020 regarding events and limiting group sizes to 10 or fewer, we will unfortunately be closing all Conservatory activity from public access for the rest of the concert season at least until further notice.

We need to do this to prioritise the safety of our students, staff and audience members, while continuing to deliver our curriculum and programming as fully as is sensible.

As such, all concerts and events have been cancelled, postponed or made internal-only. While internal-only events will still take place, they will now be open only to the YST students and faculty/jury members who are taking part in the respective classes, assessments or competition, with no public audience.

Senior Recitals will be open to the jury panel only, but they will also be live-streamed on our Youtube channel (more details to be announced). Click below to visit our channel and check out some past performances and highlights as well!

We hope to be back bringing you more great music in person soon. Thank you for your kind understanding and continued (if more virtual) support during these challenging times. Please take care and keep well!

Dear all,

We are still awaiting for an official answer from MOH.
The news came too sudden. MOH hotline unreachable since 830am till now 535pm, with repeated calls every 10mins. Tomorrow we are heading down personally.

It is very unclear as of now, because the reason for all centre-based tuition and enrichment classes to be suspended is to reduce the intermingling of students from different schools.

However,

1) Our student base is 99% working adults. There is no intermingling of students from different schools.

2) At any one time, there are less than 10 people at each level of our school as well. Probably less than 6 on average for the past recent weeks.

3) All lessons are 100% (1to1) No group classes
And of course, we have already been implementing temperature taking, wearing of mask, wiping of all music instruments with alcohol wipes (70% Isopropylalcohol, not wet towels) and using of hand sanitizers.

We will only do exactly what the government wants us to do. As of now, its very vague. We hope to have an official answer from MOH by tomorrow 2359hours 26 March 2020.
