Conservatory Orchestra Series: Preludes to the Fawn - Strauss's Don Juan & Tiu's Tchaikovsky
-- Picture:Sistic
“After all, an artist is by definition a man accustomed to dreams and living among apparitions."
- Claude Debussy
YST Conservatory’s final orchestral concert of the year offers masterworks from three of the late nineteenth century's most iconic composers, each linking in a different way to its Dreams & Apparitions theme. Where Don Juan seems in retrospect a natural evolution in aesthetic and sonority to the subjective intensities of the Romantic age, Debussy's Fawn offers that era a quietly compelling revolution in musical approach and direction. The evening culminates with the pianist as hero, with faculty member Albert Tiu offering Tchaikovsky's glittering and virtuosic 2nd piano concerto.
