About

The upright piano is a part of CGH's Moments Of Joy project to bring joy to patients and into the hospital environment, since music is one important aspect that certainly brightens peoples' day and connects people too.

CGH currently has two types of volunteers for the piano:

The spontaneous ones and the ones who will book a slot in advance. The spontaneous ones are those who will play the piano on and off whenever there is no one else playing. They do not necessarily need to use the booking system.

Others will book in advance and play the piano at their reserved time slots. Generally, those who book have priority and the spontaneous ones should be aware of this. Should you book and find someone playing at the piano, you may approach this person and kindly remind him/her that you have booked in advance.

Players can reserve a slot (either in 15-min, 30-min or 1-hour slots) via this website:

The CGH management would appreciate it greatly if players/volunteers could also drop an introduction email to pxe@cgh.com.sg. Below are some details one may wish to include in the email:

- Name

- Age (especially if children writing in)

- Piano playing level and experience

CGH appreciates their volunteers and it will be good to know them a bit and have some initial contact, even if only through email.

All volunteers are required to abide by the hospital’s policies and procedures.

¨      No smoking and gambling on hospital’s premises

¨      No buying of personal gifts, food items or giving money to patients

¨      No exchange of personal contacts eg phone numbers, addresses with patients

¨      No promoting of religious teachings and beliefs.

¨      No shorts, singlets, tank tops and slippers are allowed while on duty.

¨      No soliciting of any type of business.

The piano volunteers are welcome to play all kinds of music. However, CGH does not encourage too many religious pieces. And of course they hope that the volunteers plays well enough so that the music can be an enjoyable experience for those who listen to it.

The Upright Piano was donated to CGH and is very valuable. Should the player take note of any damage, off tune etc, kindly do inform them asap. Please also take note not to place any food and drinks on and near the piano. Any spillage could cause very serious damage to this valuable instrument. Thank you.
