Australian World Orchestra 2016 Singapore Tour

Australian World Orchestra 2016 Singapore Tour
01 Oct 2016
7:30pm
Esplanade Concert Hall

The Australian World Orchestra (AWO) will bring 94 of Australia's finest musicians, from the greatest orchestras around the world, together for one concert in Singapore under the baton of Australian conductor Alexander Briger AO.

Critics have described recent performances as "magnificent" (The Australian Newspaper), "profoundly moving" (Australian Business Review), and "sublime" (Limelight Magazine).

This historic concert event will be the AWO's first tour of Singapore and follows recent sell-out concerts under Sir Simon Rattle and a five-concert tour of India with maestro Zubin Mehta.

The concert will feature the international premiere of the AWO's new commissioned concerto by acclaimed Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin titled The Witching Hour. This concerto for eight double basses is a first in orchestral music history and has been composed specifically to showcase the outstanding double bass section of the Australian World Orchestra.

The musicians of the Australian World Orchestra play in the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra, as well as musicians from the Australian state orchestras and ensembles, and will unite for the 2016 season.
